The Duke
TheDuke
Show Date: 12 Sep 2022

Roger Michell (The Buddha of Suburbia, Notting Hill etc.) in sadly, his final movie directs Jim Broadbent and Helen Mirren in a movie based on an intriguing true story: the 1961 theft from the National Gallery of a portrait of the Duke of Wellington. Michell keeps it fast paced, but with some crafty misdirection that adds an element of mystery. Neat but never formulaic, The Duke is a well-acted, involving movie

True Things
True Things
Show Date: 6 Feb 2023

Set in Thanet, True things follows a young woman living on the fringes of society who becomes intoxicated by a stranger who overwhelms her quiet life. Ruth Wilson is brilliantly vulnerable, as is Tom Burke, the object of her desire. This is British drama at its best. It is no twee romance, however, and can be bleak viewing at times, but essential viewing all the same. Brilliant from start to finish.
